Head out walking

One of the joys of staying around Ullswater is simply having so much countryside around you.

Choose a woodland route, head towards the lake or find a longer fell walk that suits both you and your dog.

Just remember that this is a working rural landscape. Keep dogs under appropriate control, particularly around livestock, follow local signage and take extra care during lambing and ground-nesting bird seasons.

Take them sightseeing too

Dog-friendly travel doesn’t necessarily mean you’re restricted to walking.

A number of local attractions and outdoor experiences welcome dogs, so it’s always worth checking individual policies when planning your day. Buses welcome well behaved dogs too.

And sometimes the best itinerary is the simplest:

Walk → explore → pub → sleep.
